People Walk Up, Water Flows Down
人往高处走,水往地处流
Installation, glass, steel, sanitary equipment, clean
water, cycling pump, 2003
Junction: Architectural
Experiment of Chinese Contemporary Art
[group exhibition] – Lianyang Architecture Art
Museum, Shanghai
People walking up is a
type of activity that serves people's basic instincts, desires and their
subconscious,
it requires almost no exercise of rational judgment. The
impulse to ascend always lacks a clear aim; in the
process, limbs largely
act in advance of the brain. Water flowing down is the result of
rational judgment
and a realization of people's objectives. The recognition
of water running deep may promote rational behavior
among people - for
example, how to utilize, how to control, and how to dispose of water.
